The Sweet Legacy of Lopez Bakery
In 1973, Don Jose Lopez brought more than just his bags when he traveled from his hometown of San Luis Potosí, Charcas, to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. With years of tradition behind him, Don Jose opened the first Lopez Bakery in Milwaukee, a place where his love for baking and the flavors of Mexico could come to life.
From the start, Lopez Bakery was more than just a bakery. It was a hub where the community gathered, where the aroma of fresh bolillos, conchas, and other traditional Mexican pastries filled the air. Every loaf and pastry was a tribute to the recipes that Don Jose had cherished from his homeland.
In 2003, Don Jose’s nephew, Carlos Lopez, joined the family business, sharing the same love for baking. Together, they expanded the bakery’s reach, opening a second Lopez Bakery in Racine, Wisconsin. With their combined efforts, Lopez Bakery became known not only for its delicious bread but also for its warm, welcoming atmosphere—a true reflection of the Lopez family’s values.
For over a decade, Lopez Bakery thrived, earning praise and recognition from the community. After years of success, Don Carlos decided it was time to retire in 2020, entrusting the bakery’s legacy to Juana and Fernando Mejia.
Juana rebranded the business as Delicious Pastries by Juanita DBA Lopez Bakery, preserving both the name and the cherished traditions. With their shared love for baking and commitment to Mexican culture, the Mejias continued to serve the community with the same dedication that Don Jose and Don Carlos had built.
